Preparation challenges

The preparation for this trip continues to be challenging. Last Thursday night we finished packing all of the meds, etc. What a relief to have that out of the way... But WAIT!

Yesterday afternoon we double-checked the American Airlines website and found out that they have once again changed the regulations regarding baggage. Now the duffle bags we're using are larger than the allowable size and they have doubled the fee for bags that weigh over 50 lbs. We were planning on maximizing the amount of meds we could bring down by carrying 70 lb. bags - but now the fee is no longer $25, it's $50!! With all of the bags we packed we would have had to pay $550 in excess weight fees!

That's too much for us to justify. So late last night Paul and I went out and bought new, smaller duffle bags. Monday night will be spent re-packing and making some decisions about what to leave behind.

Paul and I are beginning to think that we need a minimum team size in order to be able to carry enough baggage to make the medical clinics possible. We'll certainly be talking about that in the coming weeks as we think about our next trip in October.
