Tents and food

We continue to learn that food distribution is problematic with most of the aid going directly to Port au Prince and less to outlying areas that were directly affected, some even closer to the epicenter than PAP.  The same is true of tents and tarps.  While tents will not be a good long-term solution, they are necessary for the interim.  We've purchased 58 tents from various vendors on eBay.  Two vendors have been particularly generous with donating extra tents, combining shipping, and reducing prices.  Today we're posting a link to Amazon (on the right) where readers can purchase a tent at Amazon and have it shipped directly to us here at Mustard Seed Missions.  We'll be taking the tents down in March and April.  American Airlines just began flying into PAP again today and will be allowing passengers to take up to three extra pieces of checked bags (at a cost).  This will allow us to bring in more than the usual amount of relief supplies. We're also working on a food distribution plan with Amoce.  We have determined that we can feed a family of 6 for about $48 for a week.   We'll provide rice and beans which will give them one meal a day.  Our current plan is to begin with feeding 20 families in the Leogane area.  Amoce is working out the logistics which will include finding a covered truck that he can use to safely transport all of the food.  He'll be able to purchase the food in Cayes where it is cheaper and more plentiful and carry it in to Leogane where a local pastor we know will make a plan for distributing it. Our efforts are smaller than many of the large organizations, but we feel that God has put us in a place to be working in areas that are not receiving all of the publicity that comes with large organizations.  The needs are many and it will take many people to fill those needs.
