Dubreil - Second Day

We woke up to low cloudy skies. At 7 am it began raining for about a half hour, enough to stall our departure. We arrived at Dubreil at 9:30. The street was full of people waiting -- over 100. We were set up by 10:00. Only a few of the people waiting were from Platon. Vilia, Amoce's 17 year old sister, came with us to observe today. She's considering a medical career so this was a good chance for her to be involved. Syly, the Haitian nurse, took her under her wing and she pitched right in for the whole long day. [singlepic id=64 w=320 h=240 float=left]As we got cracking more and more people showed up. At 2:30 we still had 100 people who had dossiers (intake forms) but who hadn't gotten to the vitals station. It was hot and humid. The house we were working in had a low metal roof; the heat radiated down. This clinic was remarkable for how sick many of the people were. Lots of kids with pneumonia. Several adults with large keloid growths such as one woman with a lemon-sized one behind and below her ear. A young man from Platon came to visit us carrying a photo of himself. He was an earthquake survivor who we'd seen in April with back and leg injuries. He was bent over and walking with a stick. When we saw him in April we provided him with "real" crutches. Today he walked in straight and tall without crutches and very bright with joy. It was a pleasure to meet him again. We worked until after dark with no one stopping for a break and just one peanut butter sandwich each. We saw over 230 people (haven't really counted all the forms yet). Paul and Jan were able to have a short meeting with COTMA to set the groundwork for working collaboratively with MSM and MSH on a regional cistern project we're calling 'Rain On The Roof'. It was a good day, a very good day with lots of blessings all the way around! We gave the Maxime's, whose house we borrowed, a cash gift and large BoGo solar flash-light.
