Projects At Platon

Up at dawn after sleeping well in the school building at Platon.
The trail downhill is very busy with people walking to market with heavy loads on their head and they aren't wearing "trail runner shoes", believe me! We also see flocks of sheep and a large oxen being led down every once in a while.
Coffee and granola bars for breakfast then Paul gathered his materials for the Rain on the Roof project. They were supposed to leave at 7:30 but will prob actually closer to 8:30.
9:15. Still waiting to begin. Two old ladies have been here since 7:30. Everyone else is wandering in including all the school kids. The older school kids will sit in on the kolera training. One leader walked from beyond Makaya!!!
People at Platon were just as appreciative today. We just finished training 34 ppl and will train another group tomorrow. The UN landed here in December with a helicopter and left rehydration salts but didn't provide any training or info. At least 5 different people got up and thanked us for bringing them materials and providing them with training. They were so happy to have handouts to pass out and posters to put up. There is absolutely no sign of any attempt by the govt or other NGO to provide any info. Sad.
Paul and Jasmin and two members of COTMA walked the mountains today and evaluated 20 homes by noon. I was amazed at the photos! Each house has a large concrete cistern, meant for the community. They were built 25 years ago as a govt project. But now, most of the roofs have rusted and rotted, but the cisterms are still in good use.
