Cholera On Horizon

The news today is all about the Cholera outbreak that was first announced in St. Marc. That's a long way from us, but the news says there's a probable case in Croix de Bouquet right outside of PAP. Even the cell phones have text messages with notices about "kolera".

Medical follow-up for TB

Now that we're back, unpacked, and have settled back into a more-or-less regular schedule, it's time to get down to all of the necessary follow-up tasks.  Our first task was to write a letter to the medical director at Cite Lumiere to set up an account so that we can make referrals for the TB and HIV clinic there.  We understand that we are able to write simple hand-written referrals from the field, give the person money to travel by public transport to Cite Lumiere, and they can show up and get free testing for TB and HIV.  If they test positive they will receive the meds they need.  (Greyson

Madame Antoine healing at Bonne Fin

If you were in church in March when Paul and I were missionaries of the month, you'll remember seeing photos of the woman with gangrene -- the woman we were sure would need her leg amputated. I just "instant messaged" with Amoce, one of the members of Mustard Seed Haiti. He just visited her in the hospital and she is much better; it looks like her leg is healing and she will not lose it. This is God's work indeed! She is still in the hospital, but the word is that she's MUCH better!

Madame Antoine - good news

It appears as though the situation in LesCayes has calmed down for now. There was supposed to be another manifestation last Monday, but the police interfered. According to the news reports it was a diversion tactic by drug smugglers. The news about Madame Antoine, with the gangrenous leg, appears to be good as well. She is in Bonne Fin hospital. The doctors decided that her leg looked like it might be able to be saved. So she is staying at the hospital for care. Amoce reports that the leg looks better. He and Rivenson will go out to see her this week.
